Biography

Robert H.A. McPherson is a leader in cosmetic science, biotechnology, and ingredient innovation, with over 18 years of experience across the cosmetics, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, specialising in Forensic and Analytical Chemistry, from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland.

Robert currently serves as Head of Business Development at Eclipse Ingredients, a CSIRO-backed biotechnology company developing next-generation human-derived bioactives through precision fermentation. His work focuses on commercialising innovative ingredients that support skin health, healthy ageing, and longevity, translating complex biological molecules into scalable, globally compliant solutions for cosmetic, nutraceutical, and functional food applications.

He began his career with The Mentholatum Company in Glasgow as a Research and Quality Development Chemist before relocating to Australia. Since then, he has worked across research, development, quality, and analytical laboratories, contributing to projects ranging from cystic fibrosis drug development to home and personal care innovation.

Robert later moved into the commercialisation of advanced specialty ingredients, holding senior leadership roles across Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. He has successfully driven regional growth, developed high-performing teams, and helped bring innovative technologies to market.

Beyond his commercial career, Robert has made significant contributions to the global cosmetic science community. He served as President of the Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists (ASCC) and currently serves as Vice President of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC).

A regular author and presenter of peer-reviewed scientific research, Robert remains actively involved in advancing cosmetic science. His contributions have been recognised through multiple industry awards for excellence in education, research, and technical presentation.

Robert is known for combining scientific expertise with commercial strategy, helping transform emerging biotechnology into impactful, globally relevant solutions for human health and wellbeing.
