Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology IME Co-Head Competence Center Thermische Energiespeicher

Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts Engineering and Architecture

Biography

Dr. Ludger Josef Fischer (*1965) graduated in Mechanical and Process Engineering at RWTH Aachen. After his PhD at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) he joined the Company Kühni AG in Switzerland as head of R&D and later head of sales. He signed responsible for the company Ekato Unimix as managing director and had several leading positions within the AC Serendip group in Switzerland, Germany and China.

During his industrial career Dr. Fischer invented several new technologies and processes within the field of thermal separation, mixing and dispersing, medical devices and nanotechnology. In combination with his inventions several patents were granted.

After his successful exit and since 2013 he is lecturer at the HSLU, part of the Institute of mechanical Engineering and Energy, IME, and co-head of the Competence Center of Thermal Energy Storage, CCTES.

Priorities at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences & Arts are project management for applied R&D within the field of energy storage and process engineering as well as basic research for new materials within the field of energy storage and conversion. Furthermore Dr. Fischer handles projects with the application of Phase Change Materials within thermal storage systems. His particular interest lies within the field of Phase Change Dispersions, compounds, building application and seasonal thermal storages. A specila interst lies within the filed of mixing, dispersing and emulsification, including interface thermodynamics and applications in the cosmetic industry.

Under his guidance many innovations evolved and patents were filed and granted.

He is guest lecturer at the University of the Arts in London, UAL, and ZHAW, Wädenswil for cosmetic manufacturing technologies. Since 2019 Ludger Fischer is affiliated researcher at the Massachussets Institute of Technology, MIT, Cambridge.

Prof. Fischer is program manager of the Innovation booster ‘Energy Lab’
